Job Overview
Responsible for preparation and distribution of nutritious meals for the Head Start program.
Essential Functions- Follow all hand washing and food handling guidelines.
- Obtain necessary head counts to help distribute food effectively.
- Keep classroom stocked with materials needed for food preparation and distribution and collect used materials for cleaning, sanitation and restocking in a timely manner.
- Distribute food in a timely manner to facilitate family style meal service.
- Work with Food Technician and classroom staff to ensure the nutritional needs of all children with food allergies or preferences.
- Participate in menu planning.
- Keep kitchen clean and well maintained and notify appropriate staff of any needed repairs.
- Execute other specific tasks as assigned, some of which are continuing while others are occasional in nature.
- Maintain a positive attitude towards assigned work, clients, and staff, and a willingness to work with others.
- Perform work in a professional manner that upholds Wayne Metro’s policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
This job operates in a kitchen environment with equipment such as an oven, stove, dishwasher, slicer, and chef’s knives. The employee is frequently exposed to heat, steam, fire and noise and may be required to sit, stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull items weighing 50 pounds or less.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma/general education degree (GED) or a combination of education and experience that is similarly equivalent.
- Minimum of two years of experience in a related field.
- Current food handler’s card and physical/TB test.
- Ability to communicate effectively with children, staff and other adults.
- Ability to work a staggered and flexible schedule.
- Ability to assist children with entering and disembarking the bus.
- Knowledge of state and local guidelines regarding the safe transportation of children.
- Willingness to assist with the preparation/distribution of breakfast, lunch and snack.
- Ability to participate in menu planning, nutrition team meetings and all staff meetings.
- Good interpersonal and professional skills including professional appearance, tact, punctuality, and dependability.
- Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
- Working knowledge of basic internet applications and programs including Google technology and Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
- Ability to provide services for those persons facing economic, social, health, age, and educational barriers.
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment (as deemed necessary).
- Perform work in a manner that upholds Wayne Metro policies and procedures.
- Valid identification and reliable transportation.
- Although the Covid-19 vaccination is no longer mandated, it is encouraged. Wayne Metro will always prioritize the safety of our staff and clients.
Ability to travel to various sites.
Work HoursWork to be scheduled Monday through Friday with specific hours to be determined by program needs.
