General Statement of JobManages environmental and safety programs under the direction of the Coordinator of Environmental Services. Responsible for interpreting, developing, and implementing district environmental programs to ensure compliance with local, state, federal and other regulatory agency requirements. Coordinate Facilities Management (FM) safety and training programs per applicable regulatory requirements. Manage various capital projects assigned by the Coordinator of Environmental Services.
Essential Functions- Manages all aspects of Richland One’s Asbestos Management Program to ensure compliance with AHERA.
- Manages Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) program, including receiving work orders and investigating district/public complaints; coordinates staff and contractor efforts and provides timely response actions.
- Manages/schedules inspections, testing, and remediation of mold, lead, and/or other hazardous materials; communicates and implements remediation plans; documents close-out upon completion.
- Manages the district’s hazardous materials recycling/disposal program for chemicals, paints, science lab materials, light tubes, etc.
- Manages FM’s hazardous communication program, including training and maintenance of a web-based SDS program.
- Manages capital projects as assigned by the Coordinator.
- Manages the district’s fire extinguisher program, including annual testing and recertification.
- Develops and monitors maintenance and custodial safety programs; conducts periodic training sessions, inspections, and awareness programs.
- Provides technical assistance to maintenance and project managers, engineers, and supervision to ensure compliance with environmental guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Oversees budgets and projects related to environmental and safety issues.
- Maintains the Underground Storage Tank (UST) inventory and ensures regulatory compliance.
- Stays current on developments in the environmental and safety field and participates in professional organizations.
- Provides building material samples for laboratory analysis prior to demolition work.
- Operates a variety of equipment in performance of duties.
- Coordinates chemical and other inventory management activities for the Coordinator.
- Performs general office duties as necessary, including maintaining records and files.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Requires post-secondary education in environmental-related management (Bachelor’s degree preferred) or other relevant field, supplemented by five years of environmental/safety management experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must have a valid SC driver’s license without moving violations.
