Position Title: Underground Utility Inspector
Location: South Carolina
Employment Type: Full-Time
Duration: 3-6 months
The Underground Utility Inspector oversees installation of stormwater, sewer, potable water, reclaimed water, and fire-line systems. This role ensures compliance with municipal utility standards, trench safety requirements, pressure testing protocols, and environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Inspect installation of underground utilities including storm drains, sanitary sewer, water mains, services, and fire lines.
- Verify pipe bedding, compaction, and backfill meet specifications.
- Oversee manhole, valve, hydrant, and structure installation.
- Monitor trench safety compliance, shoring, sloping, and OSHA requirements.
- Witness pressure tests, mandrel testing, vacuum tests, deflection tests, and disinfection procedures.
- Confirm adherence to municipal and utility agency standards.
- Document daily construction activities, materials, and compliance issues.
- Communicate deficiencies to contractors and work with project engineers on resolution.
- Ensure environmental regulations are followed, including erosion control and groundwater management.
- 3–5+ years of experience inspecting underground utility construction.
- Working knowledge of municipal utility standards and installation practices.
- Familiarity with trench safety and confined space requirements.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Certifications such as OSHA 10/30, Utility Inspector certification, or Water/Sewer Operator licensing.
- Experience with large-scale municipal or land development projects.
- Training in erosion and sediment control (e.g., CESCL).
- Strong problem-solving and field communication abilities.
- Detail-oriented documentation and reporting skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in varied site conditions.
