Positions available for experienced medical assistants to support physicians in maternal‑fetal medicine practices.
Responsibilities- Assist the physician in assessing patients based on information collected through history, observation, physical exam, telephone triage, and analysis of diagnostic results.
- Perform direct patient care, including triage, assessment, procedures, treatments, patient education, discharge, and follow‑up instructions. Prepare patients to be seen by the provider.
- Collect and document vital signs, history, and chief complaint through communication with patients and family.
- Prepare charts and scan necessary documents into the patient’s medical record.
- Perform specialized tests such as electrocardiography, pulmonary function tests, sleep studies, Holter monitors, and selected laboratory procedures as needed.
- Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician.
- Assist the provider with treatments and procedures as required.
- Schedule testing and referral appointments per provider instructions.
- Consult with patients on telephone calls, whether addressing the issue or referring the call to the physician.
- Place follow‑up calls to patients as necessary.
- Clean and straighten examination rooms between patients according to OSHA standards.
- Keep all instruments clean and available in examination rooms.
- Set up and maintain equipment, immediately notifying management of any malfunction.
- Maintain medical supply inventory; check expiration dates on medications and vaccines and dispose of outdated items.
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of all equipment needed to perform duties.
- Reschedule appointments as needed.
- Assist patients in signing up for MyChart and encourage its use as the primary communication tool with McLeod Health.
- Promote a climate conducive to learning through encouragement of co‑workers’ formal and informal continuing education.
- Actively participate in departmental quality improvement projects, promoting the practice mission and philosophy.
- Project a positive image to promote the practice.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Basic Life Support must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Basic Life Support certification.
- Certified Medical Assistant.
