Lab Technician - Liquid Asphalt Terminal (NS) Wiregrass

The Lab Technician plays a critical role in terminal operations by ensuring laboratory equipment is properly calibrated, maintained, and utilized in accordance with industry standards. This position is responsible for testing and certifying materials in compliance with AASHTO, ASTM, and Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). The Lab Technician must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and proficient in computer applications.

  • Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Participate in weekly safety meetings.
  • Attend and obtain Binder Course Certification from the Asphalt Institute.
  • Ensure all laboratory equipment is properly calibrated and maintained.
  • Obtain samples from all tanks and truck loading lines for in-line blending.
  • Perform material testing in accordance with applicable specifications.
  • Maintain the Quality Control Plan in accordance with DOT standards.
  • Upload testing information into DOT databases as required.
  • Organize and document testing results in Excel spreadsheets in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment.
  • Order laboratory supplies as needed.
  • Promote teamwork and maintain open communication with employees.
  • Exchange information and gather ideas to improve processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Previous laboratory experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Positive, professional, and courteous demeanor.
  • Ability to work effectively in team and individual settings.
  • Strong professional communication skills, especially when working with DOT personnel.
  • Willingness to assume additional responsibilities as needed.
  • Excellent time management and prioritization abilities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Excel.

Supervision Received

Works under general supervision with clearly defined objectives. Plans and organizes work independently, referring unusual or complex matters to management as needed.

This position requires integrity and discretion in handling confidential information, including but not limited to cost data, wage information, personnel records, and other sensitive company information. Unauthorized disclosure may have adverse internal or external effects.

Physical Demands

  • Moderate physical effort required.
  • Frequently lifts or moves materials over 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally lifts or moves materials over 60 pounds.
  • Up to 40% of work time may involve physically demanding tasks.

Physical Activity Requirements

  • Ability to climb onto and into vehicles.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, and grasp.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods and long distances.
  • Ability to communicate clearly through spoken word.
  • Ability to hear and understand detailed verbal instructions and information
