Risk Technician I: $52,520.00 - $64,043.20 Annually

Confidential Management Group III Benefits

Some duties, knowledge, skills, and abilities may be performed in a learning capacity for entry‑level (I Level) positions.

Responsibilities
  • Assists in the coordination and monitoring of the County insurance programs, including employee benefits, workers’ compensation, disability, Affordable Care Act, general liability, and other County insurance programs, as assigned.
  • Receives and makes initial assessment of insurance claims and makes recommendations as needed; acts as a liaison between the County and employees, administrators and providers regarding insurance programs and benefits administration.
  • Coordinates the processing of workers’ compensation claims for submission to administrator; ensures accurate and timely coordination of workers’ compensation claims; may coordinate and/or schedule worker’s compensation interviews and depositions as needed; conducts interactive process meetings on routine non‑complex cases.
  • Coordinates open enrollment of health insurance, Section 125 Plan (flexible spending) and other insurance or employee benefit programs.
  • Assists with the review and monitoring of insurance contracts, plans and procedures; participates in Request for Proposal (RFP) processes within areas of program responsibility.
  • Assists the Risk Manager with training for County employees and departments on workers’ compensation, workplace safety and other related topics, as assigned.
  • Prepares and distributes minutes of meetings of the County’s health insurance advisory committee.
  • Coordinates and ensures appropriate processing of industrial disability retirements.
  • Acts as County liaison between departments, medical providers, and employees in scheduling industrial Fitness for Duty examinations and ensures all appropriate paperwork and medical records are submitted in a timely manner.
  • Assists in preparation of risk/insurance related aspects of the departmental budget.
  • Answers incoming telephone calls; provides support to customer requests; provides information and answers questions; addresses issues and concerns; refers issues to the appropriate staff or department; greets visitors and residents at County office.
  • Organizes, archives, copies, maintains, and retrieves records, documents, reports, and files.
  • Observes and complies with County and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
  • Provides training to less experienced staff and volunteers as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
