Juvenile Center Support Clerk

Salary
: $38,750.40 - $47,299.20 Annually

Responsibilities
  • Performs a variety of general clerical and administrative duties in support of Juvenile Services Officers.
  • Performs duties concerning the booking and processing of justice‑involved individuals; initiates and completes applicable booking forms and enters booking/release information; processes transfers and/or releases of justice‑involved individuals.
  • Accesses, enters, verifies, and retrieves data and information regarding justice‑involved individuals using a variety of office equipment, including computers, computer networks, databases, and information systems.
  • Answers a high volume of incoming telephone calls and e‑mails, provides information, answers questions, takes and conveys messages, refers issues to the appropriate staff or department, and replies to voicemail and email messages.
  • Monitors movement and activity of justice‑involved individuals through direct visual contact and a video monitoring system; communicates with justice‑involved individuals in rooms or other secured areas via intercom; ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and department policies and procedures.
  • Observes activity through a video monitoring system and gives verbal direction to justice‑involved individuals regarding action or movement and advises staff of immediate or potential problems; notifies appropriate personnel in emergency situations.
  • Composes, types/keyboards, and processes a variety of rough draft and final documents, such as general correspondence, reports, forms, letters, schedules, records, bills, purchase orders, requisitions, and statistical and financial data; proofreads, edits, and corrects prepared materials to ensure accuracy, completeness, compliance with department policies, and correct grammar, punctuation and spelling.
  • Creates, organizes, archives, scans, copies, maintains, and retrieves records, documents, reports, and files; maintains and/or establishes filing systems; audits files for compliance with federal, state, and local laws and record‑retention schedules.
  • Collects, opens, and distributes incoming mail, packages, email communications, correspondence, reports, requests for service, and complaints to appropriate staff.
  • Performs a wide variety of routine and/or repetitive tasks, such as filing, preparing work orders, entering, editing and retrieving data, and preparing regular or special reports; may perform high‑volume production typing/keyboarding/data entry.
  • Prepares, processes, and maintains various departmental files and retrieves records; maintains confidentiality of department records.
  • Observes and complies with County and mandated safety rules, regulations and protocols.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Education
  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
Experience
  • One (1) year of typing and general clerical experience. (Clerical experience in an institutional or correctional facility, in a law‑enforcement environment, or experience as an emergency dispatcher is highly desirable.) Substitution:
    Equivalent to an associate degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business, office practices, or a closely related field may be substituted for the required experience.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles at the time of appointment.
Special Requirements
  • Qualify for security clearance through a background investigation and fingerprint check.
  • Ability to work standard eight‑hour shifts or alternate shifts such as ten‑ or twelve‑hour shifts, work irregular hours including emergencies, evenings, weekends and holidays, work varying shifts as necessary, and work overtime or mandated overtime.
  • Ability to work in a locked detention facility that enforces a lockdown, no‑hostages policy.
  • Perform data entry with speed and accuracy at a level sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
