Position OverviewThe University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources invites applications for a UC Cooperative Extension 4-H Youth Development Advisor for Workforce Development serving Tulare, Fresno, and Kings counties. The Advisor will develop and deliver a program that provides youth with meaningful personal development opportunities and prepares them for workforce and career opportunities.
Responsibilities- Design, implement, and evaluate workforce readiness and career pathway programs for youth using a positive youth development framework.
- Provide academic oversight of the 4-H community club program and educational leadership to county-based 4-H staff, educators, volunteers, and community members.
- Develop and deliver educational workshops, short courses, field demonstrations, farm and site visits, webinars, newsletters, and other extension activities.
- Collaborate with workforce investment boards, economic development groups, industry stakeholders, and school districts to expand program reach.
- Conduct applied research and program evaluation, publishing results in newsletters, articles, curriculums, conference proceedings, and peer-reviewed journals.
- Maintain office hours and travel to Tulare, Fresno, and Kings counties as required.
- Secure and manage extramural funding.
- Lead and manage program personnel and budget.
- Master’s degree in an area related to youth and/or adult education, such as psychology, workforce development, agricultural science, curriculum and instruction, or social work.
- Experience in conducting applied research, program evaluation, and education programs with youth.
- Ability to create partnerships with workforce investment boards, economic development groups, industry stakeholders, and school districts.
- Strong leadership skills with experience in program and personnel management.
- Valid California driver’s license and liability/property damage insurance for vehicle use; willingness to drive on remote highways, including evenings and weekends.
- Unrestricted and permanent work authorization in the United States.
- Background investigation required (fingerprinting, criminal history clearance) and compliance with California’s Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA).
- Deep understanding of workforce readiness and career development, with ability to design and implement programs that lead to community impact.
- Experience and sensitivity to cultural differences when working with diverse socioeconomic and ethnic groups.
- Excellence in written, oral, interpersonal, and information technology communication; proficiency in Spanish desired.
- Collaboration, teamwork, flexibility, and lifelong learning orientation.
- Experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to engage partner organizations to develop strong community relationships supporting 4-H youth development programs.
- Experience engaging regional audiences including elected officials, K-12 representatives, agricultural organizations, and natural resources agencies.
- Experience working with adult volunteers involved with youth programs.
- Ability to secure and manage extramural funding.
Salary range: $85,600 to $108,600 (Assistant Rank, Step I–VI). Benefits include two days per month paid vacation, one day per month paid sick leave, paid holidays, eligibility for sabbatical leave, and family-friendly policies under UC benefits.
