The Kings County District Attorney’s Office is looking for motivated and detail-oriented individuals to join our team!
As an Investigative Assistant, you’ll play a crucial role in supporting welfare fraud investigations and assisting District Attorney staff. This exciting position offers a blend of office responsibilities and hands‑on fieldwork, giving you the chance to:

  • Conduct background research on criminal history, income, and assets
  • Prepare reports and correspondence that drive case progress

  • Assists investigators with routine office and field investigative tasks related to allegations of welfare fraud and criminal prosecution cases.
  • Utilizes a variety of local, state, and federal databases to locate suspects, absent parents, and witnesses, conduct background research, and obtain information related to suspect criminal history, income, and assets.
  • Identifies and locates witnesses, victims, suspects, and persons by using information obtained through law enforcement databases directories, utility records, internet sources, public or private employers, families, neighbors, or other individuals.
  • Examines public and private records for personal history and other data.
  • Interviews suspects and witnesses in the office and in the field; maintains processes served and written records of contacts with individuals and information obtained during suspect and witness interviews.
  • Assists investigators with the collection and preservation of objects of evidence.
  • Conducts home visits to observe and investigate household composition and any irregularities and/or inconsistencies with client or suspect statements and/or documentation provided to determine program eligibility.
  • Maintains records of investigative activities; prepares reports, correspondence, and recommendations.
  • Participates in early fraud detection activities such as reviewing, evaluating, and investigating applications for aid.
  • Contacts and advises witnesses either by phone or in person of pending or cancelled court appearances or interviews; provides information and assistance to witnesses and members of the general public.
  • May transport victims and/or witnesses to and from court appearances, interviews, and other hearings, as assigned.
  • May serve legal processes for the department.
  • May deliver and file legal documents with various courts.
  • May prepare diagrams of crime scenes and witness lists for use during preliminary hearings and trials.
  • May photograph evidence and have film developed and reproduced for presentation.
  • May duplicate audio tapes for discovery requests.
  • May testify in court or at hearings regarding case records and investigative activities.
  • May assist in technical investigations of crime scenes.
  • Observes and complies with County and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
