Job SummarySchedules, leads, and coordinates the daily activities of a defined unit on an assigned shift. Oversees the delivery of optimal, safe, quality nursing care and regulatory compliance while providing leadership to staff by being an effective resource, role model, mentor, and change agent for their assigned department. Directs and oversees a team of nurses and support staff, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines, policies, and accepted nursing protocols.
Coordinates services with other patient care units to ensure patient flow and provides direct specialty nursing services and patient care as appropriate. Assists department Manager in accomplishing unit and organizational goals. Supervises and directs the activities of various levels of assigned personnel using professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment.
- Collaborates with entire care team to meet needs of patient and family through continuum of care. Intercedes as a patient advocate. Coordinates nursing care with other healthcare disciplines and assists in integrating services across the continuum of care. Validates decisions, care plans, patient education, and interpretation of hospital policies and procedures. Prioritizes and addresses patient/family, physician, staff, and team member concerns to find solutions.
Maintains continuous oversight of the unit and patient conditions through rounds and discussions with nurses and physicians. - Participates in hiring, promotion, and discipline of employees. Manages staffing and scheduling, completes performance evaluations, and supports professional development of staff. Prioritizes patient care needs and staffing assignments to maintain patient safety. Assigns tasks based on competency and experience and provides clinical direction to staff.
- Ensures regulatory and hospital requirements are met. Conducts rounds/audits to verify compliance and communicates findings for corrective actions.
- Provides administrative support to the Nurse Manager.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
- Education and Work Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in nursing or equivalent combination of education/related experience:

Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice:
Required - Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy:
