How You Make a DifferenceThe Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) Dosing assists in the delivery of patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation within a correctional healthcare setting. This role supports patient care activities, provides patient education, and implements treatment plans under the direction of healthcare practitioners. The position administers medications, performs clinical procedures, and monitors patient care in accordance with established protocols and nursing practice standards.
The LVN guides care activities consistent with demonstrated competencies and the Nursing Practice Act.
- Assist with patient assessments, care planning, and implementation of individualized treatment plans under the direction of healthcare practitioners.
- Administer medications, perform laboratory testing and drug screens, and obtain diagnostic tests in accordance with orders and protocols.
- Maintain controlled substance counts and complete required medication administration and inventory documentation.
- Respond to health emergencies, apply safety procedures, and assist with medical and minor surgical procedures as needed.
- Document nursing encounters and communicate patient information with healthcare providers and care team members.
Candidates should have experience with medication administration and dosing, preferably in a clinic, substance use treatment, or correctional healthcare setting. They should be comfortable administering and documenting controlled medications, completing medication and sharps counts, collecting laboratory specimens and drug screens, monitoring patients for medication reactions or overdose, and promptly reporting clinical concerns to an RN or provider. Experience implementing treatment plans, providing patient education, responding to medical emergencies, and maintaining accurate nursing documentation is also important.
