Caseworker I/II
Salary: $41,350.40 – $55,723.20 annually
The Kings County Department of Public Health is seeking a bilingual professional to help individuals and families access essential health programs and services. Responsibilities- Interview and guide a diverse population of clients to determine program eligibility and residency status; review medical reports to implement physician orders and eligibility guidelines; provide referral source information to clients/families based on assessment of need; assist in the completion of required application and/or eligibility forms.
- Interpret and explain regulations, rules, and policies to clients; apprises clients of their rights, responsibilities, and eligibility for program participation.
- Serve as liaison with other service providers including other public agencies, providers, managed care plans, families, and professional staff; maintain contact with various professional and social service providers to ensure linkage between cooperative agencies.
- Input necessary information into automated systems, organize caseload, and take required action with specific time limits established by regulation and local policy.
- Resolve problems between funding source, care providers and/or clients/families; collect program fees and schedule payment plans; prepare, send, and monitor receipt of claims for payment to state funding agency.
- Provide training to less experienced staff and volunteers as assigned.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Education:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
Experience:
- Caseworker I:
One (1) year of responsible experience interviewing, determining eligibility, or providing administrative support and/or customer service, preferably in a healthcare or similar setting. - Caseworker II:
Two (2) years of experience in performing casework activities at a level equivalent to the classification of Caseworker I with Kings County.
Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
Licenses and Certifications- Possession of a valid California driver’s license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles at the time of appointment.
Qualify for security clearance through a background investigation and fingerprint check. Certain positions may be designated as bilingual requiring fluency in a foreign language.
Application ProcessApplicants must submit a complete application and supplemental questionnaire. All completed applications will be reviewed. Depending on the number of applicants who meet the minimum qualifications, the examination process may include a screening committee (pass/fail) and/or a written examination (pass/fail) and/or an oral examination (100%) to determine placement on the eligible list. Those applicants whose written test scores are in the top 40 will be invited to participate in the oral examination process.
Veteran's Preference:
Available upon request. Submit a certified DD‑214 and a new request form for each application submission prior to the closing date.
