Teacher Aide – Early Head Start - Hannibal

Douglass Community Services, Inc. is hiring teacher aides to join our early childhood education team. This is a rewarding opportunity for caring, enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about helping young children grow, learn, and succeed.

Starting salary: $15.00/hour (Level 15)

Schedule:

40 hours per week | 49 weeks annually

Hours:

8:30 am - 4:30 pm (Hours may vary depending on classroom and extended day needs)

Job summary:

The teacher aide assists the lead teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for children enrolled in head start. This position supports daily classroom activities, child development goals, and program standards while promoting each child's physical, intellectual, social, and emotional growth. The teacher aide may substitute for the lead teacher when needed.

Essential responsibilities:

  • Assist in maintaining a safe, healthy, and supportive classroom environment
  • Support lesson planning, classroom activities, and outcomes documentation
  • Encourage educational and social-emotional development for all children
  • Help implement program-approved curricula
  • Support nutrition, hygiene, and self-care routines
  • Build positive relationships with families to support child engagement
  • Prepare classroom materials and ensure readiness for each session
  • Assist with child screenings as assigned
  • Communicate effectively with staff, supervisors, and families
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times

Education and qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED, or HiSET required
  • Must enroll in a child development associate (CDA) credential program (completed within 18 months of hire)
  • Must pass teaching strategies gold inter-rater reliability certification
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work well with young children
  • CPR and first aid certification (or ability to obtain)
