Douglass Community Services is currently searching for a Volunteer Program Director. This individual will serve as the vital bridge between our organization's mission and the community members eager to support it. Position Summary

In accordance with Douglass Community Services’ philosophy and mission, provides managerial oversight and direction to participates in the day-to-day operations of all Douglass volunteer programs including, Douglass Food Pantry, Thrift Store and Toys for Tots. Must follow all applicable regulations in supervising volunteers, developing short and long-term program objectives, facilitating the operation of all Douglass programs, and administering program policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Recruit and facilitate placement of community members who wish to volunteer with Douglass Community Services.
  • Develops and maintains coordination with volunteer programs ensuring volunteers are properly trained and represent the program and the community in a positive, friendly manner.
  • Supervises staff and volunteers that report to the volunteer programs, including necessary performance reviews and training recommendations.
  • Directs program operations in a manner consistent with the requirements of contractual agreements, laws, regulations, grant funding documents, and policies of Douglass Community Services, Inc.
  • Prepares and submits, with the CEO’s approval, grant applications as well as proposals for modification as necessary.
  • Manages expenditures, procurements, and inventory as applicable to approved budgets and procedures, and assuring appropriate allocation of funds. Prepares purchase requisitions and in-kind documentation for all related costs.
  • Ensures that the Food Pantry is maintained in a manner that will pass the annual Marion County Health Department Sanitation Inspection.
  • Takes an active role in raising funds to assure continued growth in the program and in services offered.
  • Represents and promotes the DCS Volunteer Programs in the area served by the agency by developing positive public relations and communications in the community. Provides informational programs to interested community groups and organizations, preparing media materials and serving on community boards, councils and committees.
  • Responsible for ensuring volunteers understand what they are supposed to do, including any restrictions on duties, behavior, and assigned work locations.
  • Provides training on discrimination, harassment, sexual harassment, retaliation, or any other appropriate behavior.
  • Ensures supervision is provided at all times for volunteers assigned to their program.
Education and Skills

Two to three years’ experience in program coordination, including collecting and tracking data and experience working with volunteers is preferred. The ability to communicate effectively in both a written and verbal context, plan and organize work, take initiative, and maintain confidentiality is required to successfully fulfill this job’s responsibilities. Additionally, grant writing skills, as well as attention to detail are a plus.
