Position SummaryThe General Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the repair, alteration, and upkeep of school district facilities, grounds, and equipment. This role ensures a safe, clean, and functional learning environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Preferred candidates will possess general contracting experience with well-rounded hands‑on skills in carpentry, electrical, basic plumbing, and mechanical troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Duties1. General Repairs & Carpentry
- Inspect, repair, and maintain building structures, including doors, windows, drywall, locks, cabinetry, and flooring.
- Perform rough and finish carpentry projects (e.g., building shelving, repairing trim, installing whiteboards/fixtures).
- Fabricate, assemble, or repair furniture, playground equipment, and school fixtures.
- Electrical: Troubleshoot and replace light fixtures, ballasts, switches, outlets, and circuit breakers (up to local code limits for non‑licensed personnel).
- Plumbing: Diagnose leaks, clear clogged drains, repair or replace faucets, flush valves, toilets, sinks, and drinking fountains.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on mechanical and plumbing systems.
- Diagnose mechanical issues with basic HVAC equipment (replacing filters, belts, and cleaning coils).
- Assist with routine inspections of fire safety equipment, emergency lighting, and security doors.
- Respond promptly to urgent maintenance tickets and emergency work requests across district facilities.
- Assist grounds crews during peak seasons or emergency events (e.g., snow removal, storm cleanup, setting up for district events).
- Safely operate power tools, hand tools, ladders, lifts, and district vehicles.
Skills Required:
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of verifiable experience in facility maintenance, commercial repair, or residential maintenance.
- Driver’s License: Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- Clearance: Must successfully pass a state/federal criminal background check
- General Contracting Background: Prior experience working for or operating as a general contractor with a broad base of trade knowledge.
- Trade certifications or formal vocational training in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or HVAC systems.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly (and occasionally up to 75 lbs with assistance).
- Ability to climb ladders, work in tight spaces, bend, kneel, stand, and walk for extended periods.
