Job Title and Summary
Tooling Manager – Injection Molding Tooling, Process Improvement & Engineering Leadership
OverviewRandstad USA seeks an experienced Tooling Manager to support a high‑volume injection molding operation in Hanover Park, IL. The role leads tooling engineers, toolmakers, and technicians to drive mold reliability, tooling optimization, preventative maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities- Lead tooling engineers, technicians, and tool shop personnel
- Manage tooling remediation, optimization, maintenance, and overhaul projects
- Oversee preventative maintenance programs for prototype and production molds
- Troubleshoot tooling and molding process issues using systematic root cause analysis
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean manufacturing tools and DOE methodologies
- Support launch and qualification of new tooling and production programs
- Collaborate with engineering, production, vendors, and suppliers to improve tooling reliability and product quality
- Review tooling downtime, PM data, escalations, and corrective actions
- Ensure tooling documentation, CAD drawings, engineering changes, and records remain compliant
- Support tooling design reviews and provide maintenance input for new tooling development
- Manage tooling project schedules, staffing priorities, and performance metrics
- Maintain compliance with EHS, cGMP, ISO
13485, and company quality standards
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
- 5+ years of tooling maintenance experience in an injection molding environment
- 2+ years of tooling leadership or supervisory experience
- Strong understanding of injection molds, tooling repair, and preventive maintenance
- Experience with root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives
- Strong communication and project management skills
- Experience with 2D/3D CAD systems (ProE preferred)
- Knowledge of polymer materials and injection molding processes
- Experience in ISO
13485 or cGMP manufacturing environments - Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, DOE, and statistical process improvement
- Experience using MS Project, asset management systems, and tooling documentation controls
Physical Requirements
- High-volume manufacturing and tooling environment
- Frequent collaboration with engineering, maintenance, and production teams
- Exposure to industrial equipment, tooling systems, and manufacturing operations
- Fast‑paced environment requiring strong multitasking and organizational skills
- $103,000–$185,000 base salary (dependent on experience)
