Senior Site Reliability Engineer CIAM

Overview

Senior Site Reliability Engineer – CIAM, Barclays (Whippany, NJ). The role focuses on designing, implementing, and operating highly available, fault‑tolerant, auto‑scaling and auto‑healing systems to support Barclays' digital identity platform. The engineer will collaborate closely with engineering, security, and product teams to embed reliability best practices into the Dev Sec Ops  lifecycle, drive continuous delivery, and ensure 99.9%+ uptime for critical services.

• Ensure availability, performance, and scalability of systems and services through proactive monitoring, capacity planning, and performance tuning.
• Resolve, analyze, and respond to system outages and disruptions, and implement measures to prevent recurrence.
• Develop tools and scripts to automate operational processes, reducing manual workload and improving system resilience.
• Monitor resource usage, identify bottlenecks, and apply best‑practice performance optimizations.
• Collaborate with development teams to integrate reliability, scalability, and performance best practices into the software development lifecycle.
• Maintain knowledge of industry technology trends; contribute to Barclays' technology communities to foster technical excellence.
• Lead strategic initiatives, manage budgets and policies, and drive continuous improvement for reliability and operational efficiency.
• If leading a team: define roles, plan departmental needs, coach and mentor team members, and align team goals with corporate strategy.
• Advise key stakeholders, including senior management, on risk mitigation, governance, and strategic decisions related to reliability and operational risk.

• Experience with AWS infrastructure (essential). Knowledge of Azure and GCP is a plus.
• Proficient with Kubernetes (ECS is essential; Fargate and GCE are a plus) and serverless architectures.
• Hands‑on experience with disaster recovery and zero‑downtime solutions.
• Designing and implementing continuous delivery pipelines for large‑scale, distributed, cloud‑based microservices with high availability.
• Strong programming skills in Python, Bash, and configuration management using JSON or YAML.
• Ability to embed SRE principles across engineering teams and influence reliability and feature velocity decisions.
• Desirable: experience with Forge Rock (Ping Gateway, PingAM, PingIDM, PingDS) or equivalent IAM solutions, including security gates, HTTP header signing, token encryption, and PKI-based identity.

Whippany, New Jersey. Minimum Salary: $170,000 – Maximum Salary: $230,000 (base only). Eligible for incentive award and comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), life insurance, and paid leave.
