Unix System Administrator, AVP

Job Overview

Barclays Services Corp seeks a Unix System Administrator (AVP) in Whippany, NJ. The role focuses on monitoring and maintaining the bank’s critical technology infrastructure while resolving complex technical issues with minimal disruption to operations.

• Ensure all business-as-usual activities such as operating system patching, data center recovery, Chef configuration, application data backup, Unix security, and Power Broker are handled promptly and effectively.
• Provide improvements and changes to the platform in support of client requirements and the organization’s strategy.
• Conduct fault diagnosis for complex problems and report results in a clear and concise manner.
• Provide end-to-end support on all major incidents to recover services.
• Perform monthly Linux patching on 50K+ Linux servers and ensure they are compliant.
• Perform in-depth root cause analysis and work with vendors such as Red Hat, HP, IBM, and Veritas to identify software and hardware issues, server reboot/crash, or performance-related problems.
• Execute Data Centre Resilience activities to keep services functional at remote locations.
• Ensure operating system and application data are backed up at regular intervals without issues.
• Assist the Unix Security squad with troubleshooting user access related issues.
• Create automations with scripts and other tools to reduce manual effort and proactively address issues.
• Publish Knowledge Base articles for both L1 and L2 teams, detailing incident resolution for future reference.
• Work in a hybrid arrangement; may telecommute pursuant to company policies.

• Base salary range: $138,902 per year – $160,000 per year.
