The role of Maintenance Technician at HSI is an opportunity to join our team of housing professionals, supporting the day‑to‑day facility operations for 140 units of Homeless Solutions (HSI) owned or managed permanent residential properties.
Join our team in providing a tangible positive impact to the lives of our clients and tenants!This is a full‑time, non‑exempt, onsite position, reporting to the Lead Maintenance Technician, with travel to our other facilities primarily in the Morris County area. This position is responsible for implementing our high standards for the maintenance and upkeep of our growing property portfolio, and for imparting that philosophy on tenants and those who work for or contract with HSI. Flexibility of schedule to allow for a collaborative approach to emergency services is required.
The position is offered at a starting pay rate of $20‑$21/hr.
- Typical repair tasks relate to basic carpentry, drywall/tape/spackle, paint, flooring and tile, electrical (e.g., light fixture changes), and plumbing (e.g., sink faucet changes, leak repair) as well as routine and preventative maintenance on HVAC units. Supplementary groundskeeping work as necessary.
- Installing and servicing kitchen equipment, appliances, window air conditioning units, etc.
- Moving equipment and furniture for all HSI facilities and sites.
- Assist with necessary renovations and cleaning of tenant units upon move out.
- Respond to off‑hour facility emergencies as necessary as part of the rotating schedule.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Sufficient experience to provide common working knowledge of construction means and methods.
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures related to the building trades and maintaining a safe working environment.
- Functional working knowledge and ability to use computing systems and software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Physically capable of performing duties and responsibilities mentioned herein (including lifting and carrying objects up to 50 lbs.). Able to sit, stand, walk, kneel, climb and navigate stairs and uneven terrain at properties.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Satisfactory results of applicable periodic background checks is a requirement.
