Systems Engineer – Hanover, MD

Amentum is seeking a Systems Engineer to join our team of passionate individuals in Hanover, MD. In this role you will support challenging, mission‑critical projects that make a direct impact on the Nation’s security and intelligence mission. This high‑performing team of systems engineers is enhancing the geolocation infrastructure supporting the warfighter.

This team is on the mission‑edge, integrating products and services, implementing and improving container technologies, creating efficiencies through automation, and supporting operational environments. They challenge their team members to think outside the box for innovative solutions and help each other grow their skills. The ideal candidate for this team is looking to expand their hands‑on experience, supporting the full lifecycle of their products, and going beyond traditional solutions to strengthen the fabric supporting the global geolocation infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Integrate FOSS or COTS products and tools into either connected or disconnected environments while adhering to security and customer requirements.
  • Implement containerization solutions and distributed data object store.
  • Provide Tier3 support to end users as needed.
  • Troubleshoot performance problems on lab and production systems.
  • Participate in technical discussions to understand requirements and decompose into developmental user stories.
  • Implement, review, and package deliverables and create installation and system administration documentation.
  • Collaborate with team members to create and implement solutions and/or troubleshoot problems.
Requirements
  • Expert experience with Linux operating systems (e.g., Rocky, RHEL).
  • Experience integrating FOSS or COTS products and tools into either connected or disconnected environments while adhering to security and customer requirements.
  • Experience or willingness to reverse engineer GOTS products and integrate within an Enterprise environment.
  • Knowledge of containers, automated deployment (e.g., Kubernetes), and distributed data object store (e.g., Ceph) technologies.
  • Experience with Docker and/or Podman and containerization skills.
  • Experience with Bash and Ansible to automate installation and configuration of Linux applications.
  • Technical understanding and communication skills to provide customer integration and troubleshooting support.
  • Experience with creating Helm charts and images for deployment in a Kubernetes environment.
  • Experience implementing and working with Agile development frameworks (e.g., Epic, features, user stories, etc.).
  • Ability to research, create prototypes, and recommend solutions for mission‑critical problems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university. Five (5) years of additional SE experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum four (4) years of professional systems engineering experience in programs and contracts of similar scope, type and complexity (or equivalently five (5) years of additional experience in place of a bachelor’s degree).
Compensation Details

$238,000 – The compensation range or hourly rate listed for this position is provided as a good‑faith estimate of what the company intends to offer for this role at the time this posting was issued. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.
