The Store Manager at Pet Smart is crucial for overseeing the safety of our associates and pets, enhancing the pet parent experience, ensuring operational excellence, achieving financial outcomes, and managing all human resource functions within the store. This position leads exemplarily by driving the company culture, achieving targeted results, and fostering exceptional service.
Essential ResponsibilitiesKey responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- People Leadership:
- Manage recruitment, interviewing, hiring, coaching, and termination decisions.
- Create a culture of open communication by engaging with associates.
- Develop scheduling for the store.
- Support associate development through training, recognition, and mentorship.
- Delegate tasks effectively and empower team members.
- Communicate business and financial targets to the team.
- Handle associate grievances and ensure timely reviews.

Experience:- Enhance both associate and pet parent experiences, ensuring the safety of pets.
- Oversee customer interactions and address concerns promptly.
- Maintain a welcoming and compliant store environment.
- Evaluate operations, seeking continual improvement.
- Lead store events and community partnerships.
- Conduct safety checks and ensure inventory compliance.
- Business Management:
- Achieve corporate strategies and profitability goals.
- Analyze performance reports and implement necessary improvements.
- Manage store expenses and labor efficiently.
- Execute all reporting and paperwork as needed.
- 4-6 years of leadership experience in a retail or customer-focused environment.
- Availability for full-time work, including evenings and weekends.
- Proficient in computer applications.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to maintain composure under pressure.
- Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
Applicants should be able to stand, walk, and climb as necessary. Lifting of up to 50 pounds is required, with occasional lifting of heavier items with assistance. Exposure to live animals, noise, and various work environments is expected.
