Purpose and Impact
Our contract supports more than 12 efforts with varying levels of hardware and software development requirements. Projects focus on front‑end equipment configuration and maintenance, back‑end repositories, front‑end dashboards, and everything in between for the full data processing thread. Team sizes range from one to two developers up to a team of 12. Every team works closely with the customer to define requirements, identify solutions, and plan implementation.
This position is a member of a three‑contractor software development team focused on applications that manage mission capabilities and control appropriate equipment.
Monday–Friday, normal schedule. Start and end times are determined by the candidate and team to best meet schedule needs.
Essential ResponsibilitiesSoftware engineer develops, maintains, and enhances complex and diverse software systems (e.g., processing‑intensive analytics, novel algorithm development, manipulation of extremely large data sets, real‑time systems, and business management information systems) based on documented requirements. Reviews and tests software components for design adherence and documents test results. Resolves software problem reports. Utilizes appropriate development and design methodologies. Provides inputs into system design, including hardware/software trade‑offs, reuse, COTS/GOTS usage, and requirement synthesis from system level to individual components.
Capabilities- Analyze user requirements to derive software design and performance requirements.
- Design and code new software or modify existing software to add new features.
- Debug existing software and correct defects.
- Integrate existing software into new or modified systems or operating environments.
- Develop simple data queries for existing proposed databases or data repositories.
- Recommend improvements for documentation and software development process standards.
- Develop or implement algorithms to meet or exceed system performance and functional standards.
- Assist with developing and executing test procedures for software components.
- Write or review software and system documentation.
- Develop software solutions by analyzing system performance standards, conferring with users or system engineers, analyzing systems flow, data usage, and work processes, and investigating problem areas.
- Modify existing software to correct errors, adapt to new hardware, or improve performance.
- Design, develop, and modify software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcomes and consequences of design.
- Design or implement complex database or data repository interfaces/queries.
- Serve as team lead at the level appropriate to the software development used on any particular project.
- Seven or more years of relevant Java programming experience, including at least two years of Java
1.7+ and presentation tier development. - At least one year of experience using Spring and JavaScript.
- At least two years of JSP and servlet programming experience.
- At least two years of experience with JEE and enterprise web application design and development.
- At least one year of experience designing and writing REST‑ful applications.
- Clearance Required:
TS/SCI with Poly. - Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
- Seven years of experience is required; if the candidate does not possess a bachelor’s degree in a technical field, four additional years are required.
- Experience writing Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
- Experience with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Three or more years of programming experience on Linux platforms.
- Three or more years of experience using one or more revision control applications:
Git, Subversion (SVN), CVS, Clear Case. - One or more years of experience generating and documenting design specifications of system‑level components in a UML‑based tool (e.g., Confluence/Gliffy).
- At least two years of experience with test‑driven development.
- Familiarity with Perl, Oracle, MySQL, and/or PL/SQL.
