Position Purpose
As a Dartmouth Peak Performance (DP2) team member, the Assistant Athletics Director for DP2/Academics provides academic and personal development advising and support to individual student‑athletes and teams, helping them achieve the highest levels of intellectual and personal growth. Collaborating with faculty, coaches and athletics administrators, this role furthers Dartmouth’s mission of preparing students for lifelong learning and responsible leadership by integrating rigorous scholarship with athletic excellence.
ResponsibilitiesAcademic Advising
- Meets with and provides advising support for student‑athletes across 35 varsity sports teams who wish to improve their academic and personal development skills.
- Advises student‑athletes in academic progress, course election, enrollment planning, major declaration, academic policies and campus resources.
- Utilizes communication tools to facilitate the delivery of academic information and deadlines to student‑athletes.
- Administers or coordinates exam proctoring as needed during missed class time.
Percentage Of Time: 40%
Academic Support- Serves as the athletic liaison to institutional academics partners, monitoring grades and GPAs for all student‑athletes.
- Coordinates with DP2 and campus partners to develop and execute programming that builds academic and personal development skills.
- Collaborates with coaches, sport administrators, athletics staff and campus partners to provide support for student‑athletes.
- Identifies at‑risk student‑athletes and creates academic monitoring plans.
- Connects student‑athletes with appropriate campus resources in times of injury or illness.
- Provides referrals to DP2 and campus resources in advising, academic skills and mental health.
Percentage Of Time: 20%
Administration and Compliance- Collaborates with Compliance Office on NCAA continuing eligibility certification.
- Compiles schedule and grade reports for all 35 varsity teams.
- Uses assessment tools to gather and report impact and progress data on key academic and personal development metrics.
Percentage Of Time: 15%
Faculty Collaboration- Facilitates connections between faculty, coaches and student‑athletes to identify opportunities to better harmonize the athletic, academic and co‑curricular experience for Dartmouth student‑athletes.
- Works collaboratively with Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR).
- Co‑advises the Team Faculty Advisor Program, partnering on connection opportunities, maintaining a handbook and managing faculty participation and engagement in the program.
Percentage Of Time: 15%
Other- Meets with prospective student‑athletes as part of recruiting visits to highlight DP2 and academic resources.
- Provides support for student‑athlete groups and initiatives, facilitating meaningful student‑athlete engagement.
- Represents Dartmouth Peak Performance (DP2) and Athletics on department and campus committees and in work with campus partners designed to enhance student‑athlete well‑being and performance.
Percentage Of Time: 10%
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three to five years of experience in academic support, advising students and/or developing programs.
- Must be self‑directed, strongly motivated, well organized and have a high level of energy.
- Ability to interact well with a diverse student population, faculty and fellow employees.
- Ability to meet unique student needs as they arise.
- Master’s Degree.
