The Civil Engineer participates in all aspects of the day‑to‑day operations of the Dartmouth College Engineering Office. Responsibilities include design reviews, field investigations, permitting document preparation, site grading, water, sewer, and stormwater management design and review, campus underground utility mapping, development of technical specifications, drafting, code review, construction administration, and continuous improvement of campus design and construction guidelines.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with project stakeholders (project managers, operations staff, contractors, regulatory agencies) on complex engineering projects.
- Determine or review design approaches from basis of design through construction documents for various campus functions.
- Provide technical assistance for design and operational problems, including field investigations, detailed design work, and coordination of design aspects.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate assigned project work to meet goals, schedules, and budgets.
- Complete design work and calculations using AutoCAD Civil 3D and related software.
- Analyze and design drainage engineering projects, including hydrology, hydraulic analysis, and floodplain modeling.
- Design stormwater quality projects with green infrastructure and best management practices.
- Prepare reports, correspondence, and recommendations for projects and observations.
- Review plans, technical specifications, drainage reports, cost estimates, schedules, and contract documents.
- Provide construction administration services: shop drawing review, project meetings, installation clarifications, as‑built review, and field inspections.
- Participate in campus underground utility mapping and GIS data management.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of campus design and construction guidelines.
- Support safety culture, follow safety procedures, report hazards, and participate in safety training.
- Promote inclusion and cultural awareness in interactions and communications.
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Registered Professional Civil Engineer in New Hampshire with at least ten (10) years of experience.
- Extensive analytical, design, and field experience in general civil infrastructure (water, sewer, storm drainage). Familiarity with operation.
- Experience in utility distribution operations & maintenance.
- Proficiency with PC systems and software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and infrastructure software (AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS).
- Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to work well with diverse constituents and build strong relationships.
- Strong service orientation and continual improvement mindset.
- 15 years of progressively responsible engineering experience in drainage, water, and sewer systems, including planning, hydraulics, specifications, project management, and construction inspection.
- Experience with flow/hydraulic modeling software (EPANET, KYPipe, SewerGEMS) and ability to develop or update models.
- Active LEED BD+C AP certification.
