Under supervision from the Custodial Squad Leader or Custodial Supervisor, performs a wide variety of tasks; cleaning and unskilled building maintenance, event set ups, and animal and insect control, which include medium to heavy lifting activities inside and outside a variety of the College’s facilities. Implements recycling procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Unlock and lock assigned spaces; clean, mop, strip, wax, and buff all hard surface floors.
- Vacuum and shampoo carpeted offices, hallways, and common areas.
- Wash windows (inside and outside) in entrance halls; dust office furniture and window sills.
- Clean public restrooms and showers; disinfect, deodorize, and stock supplies.
- Empty office and common area trash cans; implement FO&M recycling procedures.
- Carry out set up and break down for College events, including tables, chairs, lecterns, podiums, etc.
- Perform light fixture maintenance and replace light bulbs using a step ladder.
- Sweep and shovel snow, spread sand on walkways as needed.
- Set traps and control rodents and insects as directed.
- Maintain inventory of cleaning materials; notify Squad Leader as needed.
- May act in the squad leader’s absence or assist when required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- 1–2 years of experience in custodial work.
- Ability to work effectively with others.
- Proficient in operating and maintaining heavy industrial cleaning equipment and hand tools.
- Ability to use a step‑ladder for lighting fixtures and other tasks.
- Knowledge of safe use of chemicals for cleaning and insect control.
- Familiarity with event table/chair arrangements.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor (lifting and carrying light to medium weight objects).
- Willingness to work mandatory overtime.
- Completion of Hazard Communication and Blood Borne Pathogens training prior to work.
