Schedule II – Monday‑Friday, 7:00 am‑3:30 pm (winter hours; Sat/Sun off)

Under minimal direction from supervisory staff, performs a wide variety of often strenuous physical tasks associated with the maintenance of campus grounds. Tasks include turf, shrub, and planting bed maintenance; assistance with tree work; repairs to and maintenance of roadways, parking areas, walkways, and associated features; snow and ice removal; handling furniture, equipment, and supplies; setting up and taking down events;
and operating medium and light equipment.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- 2+ years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to operate and maintain medium and small equipment.
- Strong communication skills and customer service orientation.
- Ability to work autonomously.
- Capability to perform strenuous physical activities in all weather conditions.
- Willingness and ability to work overtime as required.
- Qualified under Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Policy.
- Willingness to pass a Department of Transportation physical examination.
- Pass an annual hearing test.
- Successfully complete training prior to work:
Driver Safety, Forklift Operator, Lockout/Tagout, Confined Spaces, Hazard Communication.
- High level knowledge of operating and maintaining powered equipment such as jackhammers, snow blowers, pumps, and electric snakes.
- Understanding and application of OSHA guidelines for excavation, drainage, and confined space entry.
- Ability to direct work and provide leadership to small work parties on projects.
- Maintain landscape features including beds, shrubs, and turf (mowing and restoration).
- Assist Campus Arborist and Tree Worker in tree maintenance operations.
- Repair campus roads, driveways, parking lots, sidewalks, pathways, and exterior stairs using hand tools and powered equipment.
- Repair above- and below-ground drainage systems.
- Demolish materials such as brick, concrete, drywall, and plaster; transport and dispose debris.
- Remove debris, discarded items, and waste from outdoor areas and loading docks.
- Assist with set-up and take-down of major campus events (commencement, reunions, conferences, concerts).
- Pack, load, transport, unload, unpack, arrange, and store furniture, equipment, and supplies between locations.
- Maintain shop area vehicles, ensuring a neat, clean, and orderly condition.
- Perform snow and ice removal operations using medium and small equipment and hand tools.
- Operate medium and light-duty equipment: small riding mower, push mower, leaf blower, snow blower, sidewalk plow, medium tractor, medium riding mower, forklift, box truck, pickup truck with snowplow or sander, stake body truck.
