Overview

The Capital Renewal Program Manager has supporting responsibility for the execution and management of Dartmouth's Capital Renewal Program. The program includes the assessment of the campus buildings and grounds to determine deferred maintenance needs, along with recommending priorities for the near‑ and long‑term projects for the rolling 5‑year capital renewal plan. The position is responsible for the successful delivery of capital projects assigned to themselves, direct reports, and/or external project managers, including planning, estimating, budget control, permitting, construction, scheduling, reporting, and problem solving.

Dartmouth's Campus Services is responsible for planning, design, construction and operation of Dartmouth's buildings, campus landscape and infrastructure. Dartmouth's facilities include over 5 million square feet of space in 165 buildings, serving over 5,600 students and 5,000 faculty and staff.

Key Accountabilities
  • Program Management – Recommends priority of renovation and renewal projects, develops proposals, collaborates with Assistant Director for Renovation & Renewal, oversees deferred maintenance items, establishes estimating and cost control procedures, evaluates performance parameters, reports to administrative, faculty and trustee committees, maintains the 5‑year capital renewal plan.
  • Project Management – Leads the capital project delivery process through study, design, construction and close‑out phases, develops and maintains project schedules and budgets, keeps stakeholders informed, resolves disagreements, manages consultants, contractors, and project teams, oversees bidding and construction, coordinates permitting, ensures quality and cost control, applies sustainability and energy efficiency principles.
  • Staff Management – Guides and gives technical and managerial assistance to subordinate employees, collaborates with the Assistant Director and other Facility Directors, works with Campus Services Financial Office for fiscal and procurement administration.
  • Culture and Employee Belonging – Demonstrates commitment to inclusion and cultural awareness, participates in division-wide CEB initiatives and training, collaborates on other CEB‑related initiatives.
Additional Duties

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (engineering or architecture) or related to construction or project management, or equivalent.
  • Six or more years of experience, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Ten years of direct experience in planning, design and management of major capital construction projects, including LEED certified buildings.
  • Experience building effective capital programs.
  • Documented success in meeting budget and schedule targets.
  • Skills in interpreting architectural and construction contracts.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with high performance buildings, landscape design, construction and standards.
  • Knowledge of utility systems, current energy efficient building systems, and energy conservation best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Conceptual thinker who is attentive to details.
  • Ability to work with diverse and at times opposing constituencies.
  • Familiarity with Town, State and Federal codes and ordinances.
  • Knowledge of OSHA construction safety standards and regulations.
  • Ability to develop and maintain project budgets, cash flow projections and schedules.
Other Requirements
