Position Purpose
In support of Dartmouth’s Alumni Relations mission, the Program Manager supports Dartmouth’s efforts to build and sustain meaningful connections between the College and its alumni around the world. This position plays a crucial role in the planning and execution of engagement efforts for regional, interest, and class-based alumni groups, including the planning and execution of the reunions as part of a designated portfolio.
The role involves direct interaction with alumni volunteers, internal stakeholders, campus partners, and Advancement colleagues.
- Manage a portfolio of alumni classes, clubs, and groups; serve as liaison between reunion volunteers and Alumni Relations; provide volunteer guidance and support.
- Participate in execution of regional engagement strategies and ensure cross‑departmental coordination.
- Identify and resolve straightforward issues using established procedures; build experience and relationships.
- Track progress and measure impact of engagement initiatives to drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with volunteers to maintain and enhance Dartmouth’s reputation and support strong applicants; support creation of sustainable volunteer structures.
- Support in‑person and virtual programs (e.g., Dartmouth on Location, expert panels) and networking events.
- Recruit, onboard, and train alumni volunteers under general guidance and supervision; work with campus partners for regional and volunteer efforts.
- Communicate with alumni, volunteers, and faculty to execute engagement strategies.
- Identify opportunities to expand alumni and volunteer engagement, leveraging data for decisions and efficiencies.
- Coordinate with the Advancement team to ensure consistent alumni communications, event and reunion planning and execution.
- Support the Alumni Engagement team processes and systems.
- Help implement engagement opportunities to meet changing needs and expectations of alumni.
- Provide creative and tactical thinking to planning efforts to enhance Dartmouth’s reputation.
- Foster strong relationships with alumni; engage them in institutional life and networking.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum two years of advancement experience in a complex college or university development operation or equivalent.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including leading meetings and trainings.
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate.
- Ability to prioritize assignments to meet deadlines without constant supervision.
- Personable, service‑driven guest service skills with professional telephone and Zoom etiquette; engaging at events.
- Strong planning, organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to articulate Dartmouth’s purposes and programs to individuals and groups.
- Collaborator who works well as part of multiple teams.
- Experience with Microsoft Suite products and CRM tools preferred.
- Flexible, adaptable, and comfortable in a fast‑paced environment.
- Willingness to occasionally work evenings/weekends and travel as needed.
- Valid U.S. or Canadian driver’s license and continuous qualification as an Approved Driver under the Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Policy.
- Alumni relations and volunteer management experience.
- Employment contingent upon consent to and successful completion of a pre‑employment background check (criminal, reference, work history, etc.).
- Employment contingent upon possession of a valid U.S. or Canadian driver’s license and continued qualification as an Approved Driver under Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Policy.
