Under the general direction of the Sr. Associate AD for Recreation, this position manages and is responsible for the operations and personnel of the fitness programs and amenities memberships offered by the Athletics Department and Recreation.
Responsibilities- Administers all aspects of the gym membership program including marketing, sales, membership services and satisfaction.
- Serves as the on‑site administrator for the execution of the gym membership services, including membership card issuance and access coding management of the online membership platform.
- Hires, trains, and manages part‑time staff for both the membership services front desk and the fitness center.
- Coordinates closely with facilities staff on operations, including building hours, pool hours, maintenance and cleanliness of facilities used by gym members.
- Forecasts, plans, and manages the annual budget for membership programs and fitness staff.
- Manages fitness center equipment care, service, and maintenance, including the maintenance service contract.
- Maintains First Aid/CPR/AED certification, manages safety and risk management of the fitness center and amenities membership programs.
- Supervises the full‑time manager of the indoor tennis center and provides oversight for its operations, memberships, and programming.
- Provides guidance and programming to the indoor tennis center manager.
- Collaborates on budgeting for the indoor tennis center.
- Manages fitness classes and personal training programs, determining offerings and schedules.
- Heads budgeting for fitness classes and personal training programs.
- Hires, trains, and manages part‑time staff for fitness classes and personal training.
- Plays a role in marketing and sales of fitness classes and personal training programs.
- Uses membership and sales data for decision making and assists in creating operational handbooks and manuals.
- Assists in content creation for external communications and marketing, including social media and email campaigns.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
• Bachelor’s degree plus 3‑5 years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3 years of experience in a related field.
- Nationally accredited certification in personal training and/or fitness classes (ACE, NASM, NSCA, other) or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
- First Aid, CPR, AED certification or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
- Ability to manage logistical and administrative details of multiple tasks or projects.
- Ability to plan work, set priorities, and respond to pressures, deadlines, and changes in schedules.
- Proficiency in business and management computer applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively, independently, and as part of a team.
- Ability to work with confidential information with discretion.
- Fitness facility management experience.
- Previous leadership of a fitness industry program or facility.
- Previous experience in the higher education fitness and recreation space.
