Volunteer Firefighter/EMT
Hanover County Government is seeking dedicated volunteers to join their Fire/EMS department. This is a skilled, technical position that involves providing emergency services, including fire suppression and emergency medical care. The role requires responding to fire alarms and emergency calls, performing routine and complex tasks to protect life and property, and driving emergency apparatus. Volunteers must commit a minimum of 12 hours per month or 36 hours per quarter.
The position entails various essential functions such as responding to alarms, operating firefighting equipment, administering first aid, and performing rescue operations. It also includes physical demands such as working in extreme conditions, handling hazardous materials, and engaging in strenuous activities. Knowledge of firefighting techniques, emergency medical procedures, and fire behavior is crucial. Additionally, volunteers should possess strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
Education, experience, and training in related fields are preferred. Volunteers must undergo a physical examination, criminal background check, and other special conditions including shift work and wearing uniforms. Junior members must maintain a minimum grade of "C" in their classes.
