Job Description
Oversee and implement the Special Education evaluation process for all students at the assigned school location. Chair Special Education initial and re‑evaluation meetings as well as other meetings as assigned. Provide counseling services in accordance with students’ IEPs. Provide support, information, and assistance to staff and parents to promote successful student learning, growth, and personal and social adjustment.
Job Goals
Oversee and implement the Special Education evaluation process for all students at the assigned school location.Chair Special Education initial and re‑evaluation meetings as well as other meetings as assigned.Provide counseling services in accordance with assigned students’ IEPs.Provide appropriate support, information, and assistance to staff and parents necessary to promote student learning, growth, and personal and social adjustment.Essential Functions Testing and Student Assessment
Develop, oversee, and evaluate students at the assigned school location.Interpret the results and significance of test results to students, parents, and staff as required.Administer special tests and/or assessment instruments to individual students as needed for diagnostic or planning purposes.Write testing reports in accordance with special education regulations and district needs.Participate in the school’s STAT (MTSS) process, making suggestions around interventions and potential referrals for evaluation.Annual evaluation caseload approximately 60 evaluations (initials and re‑evaluations).Counseling
Provide counseling services to assigned students in accordance with their IEP requirements.Design and implement counseling activities for students to promote an understanding of their aptitudes, capabilities, and limitations.Use all available and appropriate resources in meeting student needs.Provide follow‑up regarding decisions and previously made intervention plans.Provide informational and counseling assistance to parents and students as requested.Team Chairperson
Preside over Initial and Reevaluation TEAM meetings, ensuring that all participants are present, notes are maintained, and paperwork is completed.Monitor timelines ensuring that the district maintains compliance with special education requirements and mandates.Help troubleshoot problems and issues with staff, parents, and other parties.Keep current with special education law, mandates, and state policies and procedures.Keep current with and implement district special education policies and procedures.Planning and Organization
Oversee the maintenance of complete and accurate records concerning each special education student in conjunction with state and federal regulations.Maintain files and information to ensure safety, confidentiality, and authorized access.Participate in the district crisis team as needed.Participate with faculty and administrators in the development and review of the school’s curriculum and instructional program as appropriate.Perform all duties as assigned by the building principal or Director of Special Education.Relationships and Communications
Assist in locating outside referral agencies that may be needed to help a student with school or personal adjustment.Maintain effective contact with outside agencies that serve our students and their parents, including courts, probation officers, welfare workers, private counselors, and others.Assist students, teachers, and parents in locating and using available information and resources within the SPED office.Meet with teachers, administrators, and specialists as necessary to discuss the problems and progress of individual students (Special Education PLC meeting).Aid faculty and staff in the interpretation and use of information in student SPED records.Professional DevelopmentAttend professional events and conferences as permitted or directed.Keep abreast of developments in the field of counseling and special education.Incorporate constructive feedback and suggestions for improvement in performance made by supervisors.Additional Requirements
Massachusetts Certification.Demonstrate ability to instruct school students and to maintain purpose and order in the classroom and all other areas of the school.Commit to continuously improve professional competence.Demonstrate ability to design and deliver instruction to facilitate learning consistent with the philosophy, goals, curriculum, and policies as established by the School Committee.Salary Schedule listed in Unit A Collective Bargaining Agreement.
