Position: Director of Sales and Marketing (Hilton Brand)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Sales will direct sales and marketing activities to ensure a profitable hotel operation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
  • Builds relations with the community, local businesses, and local contacts to drive hotel sales.
  • Annually, prepares a Marketing Action Plan in October for following year, which includes the following:
    • 365 day by day occupied room forecast for following year
    • Proposed rate plan for next year and projected ADR
    • Marketing Action Steps by segment and month
    • Budget for marketing expenses
    • Data on Competing Hotels
  • Manages and directs the sales activities of the hotel to meet or exceed budgeted RevPAR (Revenue Per Available Room) goal.
  • Identifies major revenue opportunities and works to secure business from them.
  • Directs selling activities to maximize revenue.
  • Analyzes short-term fluctuations, various market segments and sources of business for each to balance them and produce effective streams of business for the hotel.
  • Designs and coordinates, in conjunction with the General Manager, advertising, public relations and promotional campaigns for hotel. Actively markets hotel through advertising, sales blitzes, direct mail campaigns, etc.
  • Identifies and contacts prospective clients to promote hotel services.
  • Actively sells hotel through outside sales calls, telemarketing calls, site inspections, etc. Develops and maintains relationships with local concierge and convention sites.
  • Actively sells to in-house groups by welcoming tour groups, greeting arriving guests, speaking with breakfast patrons, etc. Canvas all potential business sources within local area, qualifying them as to the amount of business they produce.
  • Accurately forecasts upcoming monthly revenues by the 25th of month. Generates sales department reports on a timely basis.
  • Communicates details of key accounts, hotel events, and sales & marketing programs to ensure that hotel, front desk staff and other staff is knowledgeable.
  • Maintains customer satisfaction by investigating and resolving customer complaints.
  • Demonstrates commitment to superior guest service through personal response to guest needs.
  • Researches primary competitors’ strengths, weaknesses and market against them.
  • Identifies current future, customer service requirements by establishing rapport with potential and actual customers and other persons in a position to understand hotel service requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules including evenings and weekends.
  • Maintain composure and objectivity under pressure.
  • Possess excellent communication skills interacting effectively with the staff and guests.
  • Maintain a warm, friendly, professional demeanor and strong sense of confidentiality.
  • Approach all encounters with guests and team members in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service-oriented manner.
  • Strong communication skills to train and motivate employees.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE):
  • Previous customer service skills and sales/marketing experience, in a fine dining or hotel preferred.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondences, and memos; ability to write business correspondences and set up contracts and function sheets.
  • Ability to professionally present promotional materials to prospective customers, and to effectively communicate and coordinate with catering, kitchen/hotel staff, and outside vendors.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts for customer catering contracts.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be required to work long shifts up to 12 hours.
  • The employee frequently reaches, bends, stoops, lifts, shakes, stirs, pours, carries and pushes.
  • Requires full sight and hearing capacity.
  • The employee is frequently required to walk; sit; and reach with hands and arms
