I. Position PurposeThis position works as part of a team to provide all landscaping services for the St. George campus. This position also is responsible for all maintenance of parish grounds. This includes the church grounds, cemetery, school grounds, pre-school, and rectory.
II. AccountabilityThis position is accountable to the Director of Grounds and Director of Administration
III. Major DutiesThis position of Grounds Assistant collaborates with the Director of Grounds and other members of the grounds crew in implementation of the mission of the parish. This is accomplished by direct responsibility for the following:
- Maintaining all grounds rge
- Responsible for repair and maintenance of all outdoor areas on campus
- Keeping all grounds equipment repaired and in good mechanical condition
- Weekly care of the Maintenance of all flower beds, shrubs, and trees
- Assures that grounds are kept clean and free of any safety hazards. This is accomplished by mowing, edging, watering, blowing sidewalks and public areas, weeding, and pruning as necessary.
- Maintain all water gardens
- Maintain St. George Cemetery Ground
- Seasonal application of herbicides and fertilizers as needed
As an employee of St. George, other duties may be assigned as needed in special circumstances. This includes assistance rge School, St. George Church Office, or assistance in St. George Cemetery. Other duties as needed should be expected.
V. Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:- Must be eighteen years of age or older.
- Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited high school. Education may be waived by experience.
- Must have authorization to work in the United States.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Must pass criminal background check and be cleared to work around children.
- Possess outdoor maintenance skills.
- Must have mechanical skills and basic knowledge of small engine repairs and maintenance.
- Experience in chemical spraying.
- Knowledge of plants, insects, lawns.
- Able to work outside during all seasons.
- Must have sufficient physical strength and ability to independently and repeatedly lift, move, and carry objects weighing up to 45 pounds and to repeatedly lift, move and carry objects weighing more than 45 pounds with assistance.
- Must be able to stoop, kneel, and work on ground from all positions.
- Ability to climb ladders up to 18 feet and to change light bulbs at heights up to 18 feet.
- Some knowledge and/or the ability to learn about occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to carry out duties with a minimum of daily supervision.
- Ability to perform the duties of the job for an entire workday.
- Ability to report to work as scheduled and notify the appropriate individual in advance if unable to work.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other staff and with the public.
- Job performance will be periodically evaluated by the Director of Grounds and Director of Administration
- Serve as professional resource to other staff members in areas of responsibility.
