Laitram LLC is seeking an Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Professional to support all elements and functional areas of the Laitram EHS Management System for the Laitram business units in Harahan. This position requires a background in Environmental, Health and Safety. Industrial hygiene, Risk Management, and Ergonomic experience are a plus.
Responsibilities- Support Laitram, Laitram Machine Shop, Laitram Machinery, Lapeyre Stair, Prime Shrimp.
- Develop and implement safety programs tailored to the organization’s needs.
- Conduct safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with EHS standards and identify improvement areas.
- Perform detailed risk assessments for various job roles and tasks to identify potential hazards.
- Oversee incident reporting, documentation, investigations, and follow‑up actions.
- Conduct root‑cause analysis of incidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Serve as the internal owner for worker’s compensation claims and point of contact for external insurance providers.
- Manage hazardous materials and waste handling, storage, and disposal to minimize environmental impact and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Assess and control workplace exposures to chemical, physical, and biological hazards.
- Evaluate workstations and job tasks to identify and mitigate ergonomic risks.
- Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies and ensure timely submission of required reports and documentation, including SARA Tier II, Solid and Hazardous Waste, and Stormwater discharge.
- Stay updated with changes in EHS regulations and ensure the organization remains compliant.
- Facilitate safety committee meetings and engage employees in safety initiatives.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness, create and maintain emergency response plans, and conduct drills and training sessions.
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or a related field.
- Five or more years of experience in EHS management, preferably in manufacturing.
- Proficiency in using EHS management software and tools for compliance tracking and reporting.
- Strong knowledge of EHS regulations and standards (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to influence and motivate others to prioritize safety and environmental responsibility.
- Ability to operate a computer and software, including Microsoft Office, EHS management, and training software.
- Motivated, self‑managed professional capable of anticipating and reacting to the needs of multiple managers and organizational needs without direct supervision.
- Advanced certifications such as Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM).
- Master’s degree in occupational health and safety or a related field.
- Experience managing facilities across multiple locations.
