This job plans and teaches children and adults how to swim. Teaches water safety courses in a private or group class setting, ensures the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies, and schedules and conducts time keeping.

Required – Must be at least 15 years of age and enrolled in High School
Work ExperienceRequired – 1 year of experience teaching swim lessons OR 1 year of competitive swimming experience.
CertificationsRequired – Certification as a Water Safety Instructor (WSI) from the American Red Cross OR three years of competitive swimming experience. American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent must be obtained within 30 days of hiring.
KnowledgeSkills and Abilities
(KSAs)
- Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information. Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
- Basic knowledge and application of swimming and water safety skills.
- Thorough knowledge and application of teaching swimming and water safety.
- Excellent customer service / public relations skills.
- Excellent decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Effectively plans, supervises, and teaches swim lessons to patrons.
- Enforces all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations.
- Completes records and reports as required by the American Red Cross.
- Completes additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Recognizes and responds effectively in emergencies.
- Other related duties as required.
