OverviewAre you passionate about ensuring the smooth operation of marine transportation? As a Port Engineer specializing in barge maintenance with American Commercial Barge Line, you will be responsible for overseeing repair scheduling, cost control, and the timely completion of barge maintenance, ensuring safe operating conditions for our fleet of boats. You'll collaborate with internal departments, shipyards, key suppliers, and regulatory authorities to enhance fleet efficiency, minimizing downtime, repair costs, and cargo losses.
Your expertise will be essential in ensuring all barge repairs are cost-effective and completed on time. Additionally, you'll ensure full compliance with company policies and government regulations, keeping operations safe and efficient.

- Schedule, coordinate, and oversee barge repairs for the assigned area.
- Ensure safe working conditions at maintenance facilities and ACBL Team Members/Vendors follow all company, industry, and safety guidelines while operating company equipment.
- Perform and coordinate barge reliability inspections to ensure safe and efficient equipment operation and verify USCG Tank Barge Streamlined Inspection Program (TBSIP) Guidelines are met.
- Monitor maintenance and repair work to ensure safety, barge reliability, regulatory compliance, and cost/benefit requirements are met.
- Serve as emergency point of contact for both scheduled On-Call and On-Demand needs.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must qualify for a TWIC card.
- Knowledge of barging, tank operations, and transfer operations and the river system is required.
- Knowledge of USCG, OSHA, MSDS regulations is required.
- Must possess a valid Driver's License.
- Knowledge of barge tank transfer operations, boat construction, engine repairs, and river systems.
- Knowledge of USCG, OSHA, and MSDS regulations is required.
- Must possess:
- The ability to supervise others.
- Facilitate teamwork and provide functional direction.
- The ability to communicate professionally and effectively through normal channels, including meetings, email, and presentation formats.
- Must be able to travel with minimal notice. Anticipated travel will be approximately 30%.
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or a related field is preferred.
- 3-5 years of previous barge/heavy equipment maintenance and operational competence in a marine transportation or shipyard environment is preferred.
- Experience in fleet maintenance or boat/barge design and construction in marine transportation or shipyard environment.
- Excellent computer skills and an understanding of office productivity software such as Google G Suite or MS Office are preferred.
