Part​/Time Lifeguard

Overview

The Lifeguard is responsible for safeguarding the lives of swimmers. Must have the ability to communicate with people of all ages. Must have current lifeguard certification, Texas Driver’s license, and CPR/First Aid certification. Must be able to work between the hours of 8:30 and 7:00 pm including weekends.

Reports to: Sports & Aquatics Manager

• Safeguard the lives of swimmers and monitor swimmers at all times.
• Assist in maintaining and enforcing pool safety.
• Arrive to work on time and be ready to work.
• Keep guard stands clear of swimmers and maintain a positive example to patrons.
• Explain and enforce basic pool rules; provide information regarding facility use and hours of operation.
• Handle conflict and customer relations; assist in general maintenance and clean up of activities, facilities, and restrooms.
• Be responsible for the property of the City of Harker Heights Aquatics Center.
• Submit reports to Pool Supervisor on accidents, facility or equipment damage, staff issues, and complaints from facility users.
• Attendance is an essential function of the job and employees are expected to adhere to the City’s core values.

• Must be a minimum of 15 years of age.
• Must be Lifeguard, First Aid and CPR Certified.
• Preferred to have experience in a lifeguard position.
• Good interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, and visual awareness; ability to interact with all pool users and relate rules and directions.
• Must be able to provide support and encouragement to swimmers and communicate with the Aquatic Supervisor and the City of Harker Heights Parks and Recreation Department.
