CAD Production Designer – Harlingen, Texas
The CAD Production Designer will develop drafting and design for water and wastewater projects while mentoring technicians. The role leads the production of 3D models and maintains Civil3D/BIM/Micro Station standards within Garver's Water Infrastructure Design Center. Collaboration with engineers, production and design leaders, designers, and technicians across multiple disciplines is essential to meet project schedules and quality standards.
Primary Responsibilities- Coordinate survey services and process field data.
- Develop surface models, paving/grading plans, yard piping/pipeline plans, demolition plans, and modified plans.
- Create yard piping profiles, pipeline profiles, drainage profiles, and cross sections.
- Calculate dirt work volumes and plan quantities.
- Use layering standards, line types, line widths, and plot styles.
- Organize project setup drawings, base files, general sheets, title blocks, and Plex‑Earth.
- Maintain drawing sheet lists and understand expected sheets based on project phase.
- Adhere to client‑driven CAD and design standards.
- Develop and deploy 3D models independently.
- Ensure compliance with quality programs and Garver standardization.
- Develop, procure, and train on civil standards, details, and tools.
- Work within a multi‑disciplined team (civil, process, structural, mechanical, electrical, I&C) on Water Business Line projects.
- Manage multiple projects concurrently and coordinate resources.
- Mentor junior team members, support their growth into complex assignments.
- Review technicians’ work, provide comprehensive markups, and participate in peer‑to‑peer reviews.
- Maintain a positive team attitude and interpersonal effectiveness.
The Water Infrastructure Design Center is a hub for highly technical, multi‑discipline design of water and wastewater infrastructure, utilizing the latest 3D and 4D BIM, Civil3D, and Micro Station technologies to deliver efficient, high‑quality projects.
Requirements- 5+ years of computer‑aided drafting and design experience with a civil engineering design team.
- Strong knowledge of Civil3D, Revit, or Micro Station.
- Strong knowledge of water & wastewater pipeline and/or pump station design.
- Experience with site development (grading, paving, drainage, piping).
- Experience with water/wastewater, architectural, industrial, or commercial designs.
- General understanding of various building types.
- Experience with multi‑disciplinary CAD designs (piping, structural, electrical, I&C, controls, mechanical, HVAC, process).
- Experience with MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Associate’s degree in CAD or a similar 2‑year degree.
- Experience with BIM
360/ACC file sharing software. - Experience using Bluebeam.
- Experience using Arc Map.
- Experience using StormCAD, HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS.
- Experience with point clouds and processing with ReCap.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, or related engineering discipline.
