Responsibilities
  • Direct, manage, review, and report on monthly financials and year‑end projections, including variance analysis.
  • Lead the planning and implementation of the annual SOM budget and develop long‑term budget projections.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the assigned finance unit.
  • Support the Associate Vice President, Financial Planning, SOM with financial analysis, interpretation, and decision support for budgetary, planning, and operational decisions.
  • Provide leadership, direction, technical advice, and assistance to administrators on budget formulation, analysis, review, and compliance with appropriate utilization of funds across the School of Medicine.
  • Perform analysis and make recommendations on complex financial methodologies involving revenues and expenses across fund groups.
  • Direct, review, and report on financial, accounting, and statistical data to internal and external users.
  • Oversee, prepare, and analyze financial reports on quarterly actuals and annual projected department profit and loss statements.
  • Monitor revenue and expenditures by generating and analyzing reports to provide recommendations to improve the SOM’s financial position.
  • Develop objectives and activities based on departmental goals.
  • Coordinate and review various academic financial reports, financial position forecasts, annual budgets, and salary reports required by external agencies.
  • Assign, train, supervise, and evaluate the work of the assigned staff.
  • Promote organization policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
  • Serve as SOM accounting, finance, and budget liaison to various University departments.
  • Monitor formulation and coordination of projects or event specifications, contract requirements, and proposals.
  • Provide oversight for all administrative and personnel matters and transactions requiring review and approval.
  • Review plant project requisitions and prepare analyses and recommendations for Associate VP Financial Planning SOM approval.
  • Develop, cultivate, and maintain working relationships with internal and external departments, agencies, and organizations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or closely related field from an accredited university.

Preferred Education

Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or closely related field from an accredited university.

Required Experience

Five (5) years of progressive professional experience in complex financial planning and reporting, including supervisory experience.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. Some travel and weekend work may be required. The role may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Physical demands include occasionally lifting up to 10 pounds.
