Scope of Job
  • Nurse Practitioner
    :
    Works under moderate supervision of a physician to provide advanced practice nursing care within primary care or board‑recognized specialization.
  • Physician Assistant
    :
    Provides primary health care services in a clinical setting under the supervision and direction of a primary care physician in adult or adolescent health.
Description of Duties Nurse Practitioner
  • Provide outpatient and/or inpatient evaluation and treatment of well care, illness, and injuries.
  • Perform laboratory review and modify treatment plan as indicated.
  • Obtain and record complete medical history.
  • Assess patient database, identify biopsychosocial needs, and make appropriate referrals.
  • Perform routine and specialized physical examinations according to departmental protocols.
  • Prescribe medications and other treatments within the APRN scope of practice.
  • Formulate appropriate differential diagnosis.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic and laboratory studies.
  • Develop and establish treatment plan and participate in interprofessional care.
  • Follow up and evaluate client status.
  • Maintain accurate, legible, and confidential records.
  • Participate in quality and safety organizational programs and reviews.
  • Counsel and educate patients regarding health maintenance and disease prevention.
  • Initiate, design, and present educational programs for patients, clinic staff and other audiences.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Physician Assistant
  • Assess, plan, and provide patient care under the supervision of a physician.
  • Perform pertinent physical examinations.
  • Obtain and record complete medical history.
  • Perform routine and specialized physical examinations.
  • Formulate appropriate differential diagnosis.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic and laboratory studies.
  • Develop and establish treatment plan following established protocols.
  • Follow up and evaluate client status.
  • Maintain accurate, legible, and confidential records.
  • Participate in quality assurance reviews.
  • Counsel and educate patients regarding health maintenance and disease prevention.
  • Initiate, design, and present educational programs for patients, clinic staff and other audiences.
  • Assist in public/campus awareness of Student Health Services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education
  • Nurse Practitioner
    :
    Master’s degree from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Physician Assistant
    :
    Master’s degree from an accredited university in a recognized field of science or an accredited education program for physician assistants.
