Job Summary
The Medical Waste Route Driver is responsible for servicing assigned accounts in a professional manner, ensuring customers’ needs are met for various waste pickup and supply delivery. The driver transports waste from WMHS or customer locations to transfer or processing sites. All company‑assigned vehicles are equipped with camera telematics, an electronic logging device (ELD), and GPS.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Manage assigned routes to ensure customers’ waste is picked up safely, timely, and accurately.
- Pick up and transport waste in compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulations.
- Plan the daily schedule based on customer needs using daily paperwork (manifest, route sheets, VCR, etc.).
- Follow routing software route schedules.
- Prepare and load trucks for the day, ensuring supplies are added and waste is secured.
- Confirm customers have properly packaged waste prior to transport.
- Provide the highest level of customer service; communicate issues to the Transportation Manager, Supervisor, or Dispatcher.
- Secure waste, supplies, and material handling equipment before operating the vehicle on public highways.
- Complete all assigned paperwork accurately and return it to the Transportation Supervisor or Dispatcher; ensure DOT Driver Log is completed when applicable.
- Communicate changes to route pickups, including address changes or unavailable waste, to all relevant parties.
- Perform pre‑trip and post‑trip maintenance on the truck; report maintenance issues to the Dispatcher.
- Use the ELD and Geotab to log hours in accordance with DOT guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- 0–1 year of experience, preferably in driving box trucks and route management.
- May require mandatory immunizations and credentialing based on customer requirements.
- Valid driver’s license.
- All CMV drivers must be able to obtain a medical card from a certified medical examiner.
- High school diploma or GED (accredited).
- Standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, reaching, talking, hearing.
- Work in both indoor garage or shop environments and outdoor conditions that may include inclement weather, heat, and humidity.
