School Psychologist

The School Psychologist plays a vital role in supporting students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development. Through psychological assessments, interventions, and collaboration with staff, families, and external professionals, the School Psychologist works to create positive and effective educational environments that support the well-being and success of all students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Psychological Assessment:
    Conduct psychological assessments to evaluate students' academic, emotional, social, and behavioral needs, utilizing both standardized and problem-solving evaluation methods.
  • Intervention and Support:
    Design and implement evidence-based interventions to address academic and behavioral challenges, continuously monitoring their effectiveness.
  • Collaboration & Consultation:
    Partner with teachers, parents, administrators, and external professionals to develop and deliver effective behavioral management strategies, educational plans, and support services.
  • Special Education Services:
    Provide psychological evaluations for students referred for special education programs, and contribute to IEP conferences and eligibility decisions.
  • Individual & Group Counseling:
    Deliver direct psychological interventions, including individual and group counseling, to support students' mental health and emotional well-being.
  • Behavioral Assessments:
    Conduct functional behavior assessments and other evaluations to identify behavioral concerns and develop targeted interventions.
  • Program Development & Evaluation:
    Collaborate in the design, implementation, and evaluation of school-wide prevention programs, crisis interventions, and mental health initiatives.
  • Research & Continuous Improvement:
    Engage in research and program evaluations aimed at improving psychological services and educational outcomes for students.
  • Other Duties:
    Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to meet the needs of students and the educational community.

Qualifications

Education & Certification: A Master's Degree in School Psychology or Educational Psychology is required. Must possess a valid Michigan School Psychologist Certificate.

Skills & Experience:

Knowledge of psychological assessment methods, intervention strategies, and special education processes. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with students, families, and staff.
