Reports To

Job Goal

To create a flexible content-based program and a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed for a successful post‑secondary transition, in accordance with each student's ability; and to establish good relationships with parents and other staff members. Working with interdisciplinary teams, provide a school culture conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of adolescents to ensure success for every student.

Performance

Responsibilities
  • Teach content to students in assigned classes using the course of study and curricular resources adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  • Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Evaluate students' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student progress and interpret the school program.
  • Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
  • Maintain professional competence through in‑service education activities provided by the district and self‑selected professional growth activities.
  • Supervise students in out‑of‑classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Administer group standardized tests in accordance with the district testing program.
  • Participate in curriculum development programs as required.
  • Participate in faculty committees and sponsorship of student activities.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and implementation of student Individual Education Plans, 504 plans, and Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled IEP meetings.
  • Other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor that pertain to the position of Teacher.
Special Requirements

Required to attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as required by the LFEA contract.

Terms of Employment

Ten‑month work year. Salary and schedule determined by the Board of Education.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
