What You'll Do

As a Direct Support Professional, you will provide hands‑on support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a residential setting. Your role will combine advocacy, daily living support, documentation, safety, and community engagement. In this role, you will:

Individual Support & Daily Living

Support individuals in achieving goals outlined in their Person-Centered Plan (PCP) and Behavior Support Plan (BSP). Assist with activities of daily living such as dressing or hygiene needs. Promote independence while providing appropriate levels of supervision. Establish positive, respectful relationships with individuals, families, and guardians. Provide crisis support using approved intervention techniques (MANDT).

Medication & Health Support

Maintain Approved LLAM Medication Status and administer medications in accordance with LLAM protocol. Complete medication documentation accurately and consistently. Successfully complete supervised medication passes and required certifications within the probationary period. Monitor and report health concerns or changes.

Documentation & Compliance

Document significant shift events and observations in the Electronic Record. Safeguard individuals’ funds and complete required documentation. Report incidents in accordance with DDDS and company policies. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA requirements. Complete required Relias trainings, in‑person trainings, and staff meetings.

Household & Community Engagement

Complete daily household duties including cleaning, laundry, meal preparation, and shopping. Drive agency fleet vehicles to transport individuals to appointments and community activities. Assist with planning outings and meaningful activities. Advocate for individuals both in the home and in the community. Ensure a safe, clean, and supportive living environment.

Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record (required to transport individuals in agency vehicles).
  • Ability to pass a 5-panel drug screen, including screening for THC in accordance with State of Delaware and DDDS regulations.
  • Ability to obtain an eligible criminal background determination from Delaware State Police.
