Position Overview:

The Staff Accountant supports all aspects of the preparation and review of the financial statements in accordance with GAAP. In this role, the individual will need excellent communication skills as this role will require the individual to work cross functionally with members of the entire organization. The successful candidate in this role will be responsible for supporting the accounting department in various areas;

including, but not limited to maintenance of the general ledger, variance analysis, development and documentation of internal controls and monthly, quarterly and annual close processes. The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter who enjoys working in a challenging and fast-paced environment. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and an objective approach to learning and problem-solving are a must.

Primary Responsibilities:

* Prepare personal property and mercantile tax returns for entire company including timely payment of amounts due.

* Calculate and file sales and use tax returns in all regions where there is nexus.

* Assist with gathering documentation for sales/use tax audits.

* Coordinate with state auditors for personal property tax audits.

* Participate in the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, including collaboration and coordination amongst multiple stakeholders.

* Prepare general ledger entries by maintaining records, files and account reconciliations.

* Review general ledger for input accuracy and verification of accounts.

* Responsible for the preparation of consolidated financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

* Responsible for the analysis of financial data by summarizing and interpreting data.

* Prepare various management reporting including variance analysis and sales dashboard.

* Develop and maintain internal controls and related documentation.

* Assist in providing documentation for internal and external auditors, as needed.

* Collaborate with the Executive team to ensure proper allocation of financial data and accounting.

* Complete any additional responsibilities and/or duties as assigned.

* Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field, with 1-3 years of prior experience, preferably in a retail environment.

* Strong understanding of sales/use tax, accounting theory and US GAAP.

* Strong Excel skills and the ability to efficiently manage large data sets (VLOOKUP, Sum-Ifs, Pivot tables, etc.)

* Familiarity with large General Ledger system.

* Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to multi-task.

* Ability to adapt quickly and easily and shift approach in response to the demands of the situation.

* Demonstrated flexibility especially during month-end closing processes

* Ability to think proactively and work in a highly collaborative and fast paced environment.

* Detail oriented and deadline driven with good analytical, organization, and communication skills.

* Able to present financial data in a concise, logical and useful manner.

* Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to explain financial data and balances.
