Focus Academy Teacher Of Record

The Focus Academy Teacher-of-Record is responsible for teaching and providing feedback to students in an online, asynchronous environment through a curriculum provided through an outside virtual platform. Teachers monitor student progress through the Capital Area Online Learning Association (CAOLA) Genius Student Information System (SIS) and work actively with students and parents to advance each child's learning. Teachers assess student learning and employ effective and appropriate online teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students.

Qualifications:

Secondary Subject Area (grades 7-12) or Grades 4-8 (Subject Specific)

Essential Functions:

Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter through instruction and effective teaching practices.

Augment course content according to prescribed policies and procedures using appropriate asynchronous/synchronous tools and instructional aids.

Use multiple student data elements to assess student progress, modify instruction, improve student learning, and help students achieve curricular objectives.

Monitor student academic progress and attendance.

Maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievements, and attendance.

Notify the Principal of concerns about student performance and progress.

Evaluate student learning and provide substantive feedback using online technologies.

Foster and manage a safe, positive, and respectful online learning environment to promote effective student behavior and success.

Demonstrate effective online classroom management.

Demonstrate a professional commitment to innovation and lifelong learning.

Provide LIVE (face-to-face) Office Hours outside the school day – providing the opportunity for students to meet and discuss.

Communicate effectively with families, as needed.

Provide at least one (1) weekly phone call, or MS Teams meeting, to families about their learner's progress. All communications should be documented.

Adjust instruction and evaluation techniques according to 504 or individual education plan needs.

Conduct whole group, small group, or individual instructional sessions based on course requirements.
