Position Overview
Environmental Planning Supervisor – lead environmental permitting work for major transportation projects within the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). Guide decisions supporting safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible construction.
Responsibilities- Manage permitting activities for the Environmental Unit, ensuring compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and procedures.
- Coordinate reviews, oversee mitigation efforts, and guide staff on transportation projects.
- Oversee environmental permits, including waterway, stormwater, and waste management requirements.
- Evaluate project plans and hydrology reports to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Work with agencies such as the Department of Environmental Protection, the Army Corps of Engineers, and others to address permitting needs.
- Lead environmental staff by assigning tasks, reviewing work, and supporting training needs.
- Assist project teams by monitoring mitigation efforts and ensuring proper documentation.
- Track environmental requirements before, during, and after construction activities.
- Full‑time employment.
- Work hours:
7:00 AM–3:00 PM, Monday‑Friday with a 30‑minute lunch. - Telework opportunity: part‑time telework subject to availability of a securely configured high‑speed internet connection and approved Pennsylvania location.
- Salary may be non‑negotiable in some cases.
- Two years of experience as an Environmental Planner 2 (Commonwealth job title) or equivalent federal position; or six years of professional experience in local, regional, or state environmental planning; or a master’s degree in planning or an environmental science with three years of progressively responsible professional environmental planning experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
- PA residency requirement must be met.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
