Position: TAX REVENUE SPECIALIST

Job Description

Overall Objective Of Job:
The Tax Revenue Specialist carries out all tax and licensing responsibilities in the Treasurer's office; directs and monitors tasks and projects in order to meet deadlines and maintain a consistent workflow and provides support to the Treasurer and Deputy Treasurers. Starting salary $19.00/hour.

Essential Functions Of Job:

  • Receives, posts and processes county and municipal real estate tax payments from tax collectors, property owners, and mortgage companies.
  • Prepares tax certifications upon request by homeowners, settlement companies and banks.
  • Prepares and processes bank deposits and creates accounting entries within Oracle and Quick Books.
  • Assists with the processing of investment wires and ACH transactions as needed.
  • Collects and disburses the County Room/Hotel Tax and prepares reports and maintains records as required by state and county ordinance.
  • Issues state licenses; prepares required monthly reports; maintains financial records and reconciles cash drawer.
  • Reconciles agent-sold dog licenses and maintains electronic database of all licenses sold.
  • Issues Small Games of Chance and Bingo licenses and maintains files and electronic database of all licenses issued, as well as initiating reminder notices to applicants.
  • Interacts with auditors, financial institutions, internal/external government agents and the public in regard to transactions within the Treasurer's Office.
  • Ensures that internal controls are implemented and routinely reviewed to eliminate and/or reduce the opportunity for fraudulent activity within the Treasurer's office; produces reports that monitor financial transactions within the office.
  • Assists customers at the counter and on the telephone.

Other Duties Of Job:

  • Attends meetings, training, and in-services as required.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.

Supervision Received:

  • Receives instruction and supervision from the Treasurer and Deputy Treasurers.

Working Conditions:

  • Works indoors in adequate workspace, ventilation, lighting and temperature.
  • Works with frequent exposure to disruptions; average indoor exposure to stress, noise and dust/dirt.

Physical/Mental Conditions:

  • Must possess ability to record, convey and present information, explain procedures, and follow instructions.
  • Must be able to sit/stand for long periods throughout the workday, with intermittent periods of standing, walking, bending, twisting, and reaching as necessary to carry out duties of job.
  • Dexterity requirements range from simple to coordinated movements of fingers/hands; feet/legs; torso necessary to carry out duties of job.
  • Sedentary work, with occasional lifting/carrying of objects with weights up to ten pounds.
  • Must be able to pay close attention to details and concentrate on work.

Qualifications:

  • A. Education/Training:
    Graduation from high school or an accredited equivalency program; associate's or bachelor's degree in accounting or finance preferred.
  • B.

    Work Experience:

    One (1) year of working experience in an accounting department or government office, or any acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required:

  • Must be able to speak and understand the English language in order to carry out essential job duties.
  • Must possess effective communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must possess ability to function independently, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with employees, department heads, staff, and others.
  • Must possess ability to maintain confidentiality regarding property records, as applicable.
  • Must possess knowledge of operating personal computers and other office equipment, as necessary.
  • Must possess knowledge of Quick Books, Windows, and Microsoft Applications.
  • A favorable criminal background check is required.
