VP of Operations
The VP of Operations drives the planning process for operations by overseeing and managing a number of functions which include: manufacturing, production planning, shipping and receiving, maintenance, manufacturing engineering, inventory control and purchasing.
Skills andPrerequisites:
- Two-year Associates Degree required, Bachelors’ degree desired. 10+ years of progressive career progression within a manufacturing environment; specific experience with cold drawing of wire and/or bar preferred.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to engage and enable influence others and manage change. Driven, inquisitive, commanding, and hands-on problem-solving traits. Well versed in ISO standards and application in addition to Lean manufacturing.
- Highly motivated, self-directed, and enthusiastic individual.
- A passion for safety with personal accountability with proven ability to drive same throughout an organization.
- Proven ability to drive shop floor execution and efficiency.
- Strong focus on safety, quality and customer satisfaction.
- Proven record of success managing and optimizing a manufacturing organization encompassing multi or continuous shifts.
- Comprehensive knowledge of and experience in manufacturing philosophies, operations, processes and related technologies.
- Proven ability to plan at both strategic and operational levels
- Implementer of cultural change with strong bias for team work.
- Proven ability to build and develop a high performing manufacturing team.
- Cold drawing process knowledge preferred.
The Director/VP of Operations reports to the Chief Executive Officer
Description of Responsibilities:STRATEGIC AND OPERATIONAL
- Provide leadership and direction for the successful day-to-day operation of the facility across all shifts.
- Develop and execute an annual plan supporting the company’s strategic objectives that will increase margins and establish quality and safety performance measures.
- Maintain plant safety, adhering to all regulatory guidelines, ensuring a safe workplace for all employees.
- Establish and achieve business objectives in the areas of safety, cost, quality, customer service and efficiency.
- Coordinate production activities with Sales to ensure delivery commitments are met.
- Lead efforts within Production, Scheduling, Procurement, Receiving and Shipping to ensure cohesion among the inputs and outputs of the manufacturing process.
- Identify new capital projects necessary to fulfill projected customer demand and meet technology needs.
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
- Drive continuous improvement activities using lean, six-sigma and other appropriate methodologies.
- Drive initiatives to maximize employee contribution in both product quality and production efficiency.
- Develop and utilize metrics to meet established objectives and drive continuous improvement.
- Lead process improvement activities, including process optimization and process re-engineering.
EMPLOYEE AND PLANT FOCUS
- Lead a team comprised of four (6) Area Supervisors, Scheduler, and Purchasing Manager. Total workforce of approximately 50 production workers.
- Ensure all managers, supervisors, leads and production workers are properly trained to perform their job functions in an efficient and safe manner.
- Drive accountability for performance by maintaining prompt and accurate reporting systems on all aspects of plant operations.
- Analyze and establish workforce requirements to meet customer demand and business objectives.
- Ensure production goals are continuously met within applied labor standards.
- Ensure the plant and equipment is maintained in a safe, operable, neat, and orderly fashion.
- Oversee all hazardous and non-hazardous waste handling activities.
- Maintain a tour ready, clean facility at all times.
