Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Nursing Assistant committed to delivering the highest quality care to our patients. The ideal candidate is reliable, punctual, and demonstrates strong attendance, teamwork, and communication skills. They proactively engage in patient care and support collaboration across the care team. Geisinger offers a $1500 sign‑on bonus for eligible candidates, a minimum hiring rate of $16.25 with increased rates for experienced individuals, up to $3 shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts, and up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse.

Job Duties

Responsible and accountable for performing a wide range of clerical duties and direct patient care activities, depending on the needs of the unit. Tasks are performed efficiently and timely to enhance the care team's ability to provide quality care.

Duties include:

  • Meet the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range in their assigned clinical area.
  • Provide patient care as directed, within the nursing assistant scope of practice, to meet the multidisciplinary care plan for each patient.
  • Identify, observe, and document the physical needs of the patient according to established standards.
  • Report changes in patient condition to licensed personnel in a timely manner.
  • Obtain and maintain the integrity of specimens in accordance with policy and procedure, according to physician order.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living and fulfill designated and delegated responsibilities for ongoing continuum of care, including patient hygiene and changing linens.
  • Provide one‑to‑one patient safety watch as assigned following established policies and procedures.
  • Accurately process specimens and provide timely transport to the laboratory.
  • Perform point‑of‑care patient testing and instrument maintenance and quality control.
  • Assist in problem solving, troubleshooting, and taking corrective measures for equipment and supplies.
  • Serve as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students in a positive manner.
  • Perform clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths according to standards and facilitate patient throughput activities.
  • Transcribe and process orders and release and confirm ordered tests to appropriate departments.
  • Coordinate transportation of patients to multiple tests and communicate electronic information pertinent to the nursing unit.
  • Schedule tests, fax consults, and assist in ordering supplies, stationery items and floor stock.
  • Communicate with food services to ensure appropriate patient diets.
  • Operate, problem‑solve, and take corrective measures for clerical equipment such as computers, fax machines and phones.
  • Access non‑controlled medication storage and supply areas and transport medications within the unit as needed.
  • Assist with transporting non‑controlled medications to and from pharmacy and assist with transporting blood products to and from blood bank.
  • Work is typically performed in a clinical environment and comply with all organizational policies and procedures.
